Location: Nashville, TN

Tennessee State University is a culturally rich and safe institution located in Nashville, Tennessee. TSU is a historically black university and advocates for diversity and the personal development and education of all students. About the Scholarship 

What is the scholars program?
The TSU For Others Scholars Program is a full ride scholarship for a bachelor’s degree, an associates degree, or certificate. Check out some of our programs of study here:

Who can apply?
The TSU For Others Scholars Program has been created for those who are or have aged out of foster care (some form of proof will be needed for verification) between the ages of 18 – 20. Applicants must be TN residents or those within a 250 mile radius of TSU.

What are the academic requirements?
The TSU For Others Scholars Program requires that candidates have either graduated high school with a 2.5 gpa (some exceptions will be made on a case-bycase basis) or have acquired their GED. Either a high school transcript or GED transcript will be needed.

What does the scholars program offer?
The TSU For Others Scholars Program provides a full scholarship covering tuition, room and board, books, meals, and all other fees. Child care is also provided on campus for students who necessitate it. TSU’s campus remains open year-round so that students have consistent housing and meals throughout the entire year, including all holidays. Each student will be paired with an academic success coach and a leadership/ life coach. Additionally, counseling is available to Scholars Program students. Scholars will be a part of a cohort that includes opportunities for leadership development, conflict resolution, and other opportunities.

What is the deadline for applications?
July 31, 2022

Is there additional relational support?
Yes. Students will have the opportunity to choose a mentoring family living in the Nashville area. A mentoring family is a person or couple wanting to come alongside the student to play a supportive role through their academic career and next steps entering into the workforce. In addition, a mentoring family is meant to provide a safe and stable relationship to the scholar during their time at TSU and beyond.
